So my sunroof froze up and ground out the motor on my E55 AMG. pulled out the motors per the instructions on the mbworld.org website and found the issue. the plate had warped out like the posts had said. got everything out and went online to a junk yard and found a 98 E-class and purchased the sunroof motor from them. it is quite a bit easier to remove the 98 motor. now i will remove the plate and gear and put those in my 04 e55 amg and get it going. Have to grease the tracks to make sure this doesn't happen again.
the part number of the motor i found in the 98 is 2028200508, 0390200001 plate and gear work.
also i cut a piece of aluminum and connected the two screws towards the end together to give it some extra strength
here are the instructions for the removal

Pano Motor Repair DIY- courtesy of Eurocharged
Hey everyone, I too had the machine gun sound from the pano roof and figured I would do a DIY on how to fix it! First the motor: You can get one new or used. I picked up a used on ebay for ~$200. Remember that there are two motors there, one for the glass, and one for the cover. OEM # 203 820 3242 - part number for the glass motor Ok, lets get started...wear gloves as that suede marks easily! you need to fully close the roof. If you need to this can be done by hand. On the enter console (roof) you will see two speaker grills. Pop open the left hand side one and you will see a hex opening. Insert hex tool, and manually crank that baby shut! Remove the sunvisors screws Remove the visors themselves (flip down the cover) Remove the o-crap handles Now you should be looking at this Loosen the pillars on both sides...pulls out as its clipped on Ok, now we will focus on the center console remove the cover closest to the glass (snap fit) Now, push your face on the glass and you will see two small tabs. (see pic) They are located in the back of the console closest to the glass Push both black tabs and pull back and the console will slide out. Smack the rearview mirror at an angle and it will pop out of the fit (push fit) Remove the metal Y section Unplug with wires being very careful. You might want to disconnect the rain sensor as well to make it easy to get around Now we can see the motor you want to get to. If sitting in the drivers side, it is closest to you. The cover motor is on the pass side Gently bend down the headliner to gain access to the motor. There are three screws holding it down. Remove it and look at the mess... Here is what the track looked like after I removed the motor Put the new motor in and don't forget to lube the track Now, remove fuse 9 from the trunk. That should clear the memory for the damn thing. I had to play with it a few times and then everything started working again. You will have to go all the way open then closed a few times etc. Put the console back in and the rearview mirror just needs to be press fit into the slot (spring loaded). Its finicky but will go back eventually. I did everything in 1.5 hours start to finish. Put everything back together and enjoy the fact you just saved a ton of cash...$ you can spend on eurocharged.com |
